EMS Captioner creates word-timed animated captions as editable MOGRT clips in Premiere Pro. Set your preferences, select the audio you want captioned, and let one Generate action handle transcription and caption creation. The words and MOGRT properties remain under your control after they appear in the sequence.
Before you start
Install EMS Captioner for Premiere Pro and activate a trial or license. Open the sequence you want to work on, and make sure the audio you want captioned is available in the timeline. You do not need to export or import an SRT file.
Select the audio in your sequence
Open the EMS Captioner panel and click the audio or video clip in your Premiere timeline that contains the speech. If your sequence has music or sound effects on separate tracks, select the dialogue or voice clip you want the captions to follow.
Choose transcription preferences
In 1. Transcribe Audio, choose from the 99 language options in the Multilingual model. Keep Include punctuation on for punctuated captions; US or UK spelling applies when English is selected. The English-only option is faster and is available only for English. Language recognition quality can vary, so proofread the result.
Speech recognition runs locally on your computer. The words are not sent to a separate online caption service by this transcription step.
Pick an animation and word count
In 2. Reactive Captions, open the animation selector and choose a style. Set Words shown at a time to control how many words appear together. You can also expand Text appearance to adjust the font, text colors, spoken-word color, background, and stroke options exposed by your installed style.
Click Generate Reactive Captions
Click Generate Reactive Captions. The plugin processes the selected audio on your computer and automatically aligns each caption to the spoken words as it creates animated MOGRT clips in your sequence. The timing is ready with the captions; there is no routine retiming step. You can follow progress in the panel. You don’t have to download a transcript, convert a file, or manually import captions.
Your captions are timed—edit the words and look
Caption timing is generated to follow the recognized speech, so no manual retiming is needed. Proofread the text for names, technical terms, punctuation, and any speech-recognition errors. Each generated MOGRT’s text remains editable in Premiere, and you have full control of its available template properties and visual treatment.
Use Sync text across this caption’s word indexes to keep a wording correction consistent across its word clips. Apply font and style across all captions in the sequence, adjust available properties such as text and spoken-word colors, background, and stroke, or use Apply selected style to generated captions to restyle the existing captions without transcribing again.
Tips for a cleaner first result
- Select the dialogue source rather than a full mix with loud music or effects when possible.
- Choose the correct language before generation; speech recognition quality depends on clear audio and the right language setting.
- Choose the animation style and appearance you want; you can still edit the generated MOGRT text and properties in Premiere afterward.
- Proofread the words before delivery. Local transcription removes the transcript-export/import step, but speech recognition can still mishear names or unclear speech.
